is the Only Hay Bale Sculpting Event in Northern Jersey

 

 

WHAT THE HAY!?!?!...September 22 & 23, 2012

 

Visitors at the Pumpkin Land Festival can watch the progress throughout the weekend as hay “artists” build original sculptures from bales of hay. Hay art sculptures will remain on display for the duration of the Pumpkin Land Festival through October 28, 2012.

Schedule:

10:00 am - 5:00 pm, Saturday, September 22: hay sculpting teams will carve away at hay bales

10:00 am - 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 23: the teams will continue to create their hay bale sculptures

4:00 pm, Sunday , September 23: judging and winning teams announced.

Rules of Entry:

  • Registration form must be submitted by Thursday, September 20, 2012.
  • Heaven Hill Farm will provide up to 20 hay bales per team.
  • Sculpting teams can be groups of 2-10 sculptors.
  • Maximum of 12 teams will be allowed. Early registration suggested.
  • One or more team members must be 18 or older - haybales can be heavy to lift and require stacking for tall sculptures.
  • Sculptors are competing in the following categories: Best Dressed (decorate your hay sculpture with material, flowers or props of your choice) & People’s Choice—as selected by the public by putting quarters into a container. Most money at end of day wins total collected!
  • Sculptors are competing for gift certificates, tickets to the Haunted Acres Hayride and the Pumpkin Land Festival, bragging rights and so much more.
  • Judging of sculptures will be based on a point system in the following areas: theme, originality and artistic merit.
  • Sculpture must be in good taste.
  • Sculpting cannot begin before 10:00 am and must be finished by 5:00 pm on Saturday and 3:00 pm on Sunday.
  • Heaven Hill Farm will prepare signage with the names of the sculptor(s) and post in each location.
  • If you are in a sunny location, you may provide some type of shade for your sculpture.
  • The competition will take place regardless of weather conditions or number of entries.
  • Winners will be announced at 4 pm on Sunday, September 23.
